"I am proud to be the 16th
Sister of the Holy
Family
to serve as Principal of Transfiguration
Academy, and happy to announce that the
school is continuing in the tradition of
educating our children well. Our present
enrollment exceeds 200 pupils, which is
at capacity for current class size
regulations.
Our preschool program, "Holy Family
Early Education Academy" began in
1984 and is licensed for 65 children by
the Family Independence Agency of the
State of Michigan. In 1990, the school's
name was updated to
"Transfiguration Academy" to offer
prestige to our children and our
school programs. We have always had a
waiting list.
In spite of the fact that the majority
of our students are not Catholic,
the Academy has truly remained a
Catholic School. Each morning, the
faculty
and student body assemble in the
multi-purpose room to begin the school
day
with a prayer. Catholic teachers present
daily religion classes at all grade
levels. Several mornings each week, I
conduct Catholic Class for all of our
Catholic children as well as those who
are interested in our faith. This
special instruction has resulted in
several Baptisms, as well as sacramental
preparation.
Our Evangelization Program is truly
successful!
One morning each week, Father Andy
celebrates a children's liturgy for
all of our elementary students. They
sing and respond enthusiastically, and
participate in the readings, offertory
procession and serving.
During Lent,
the Stations of the Cross are attended
one special hour a week by grades
one through eight. Religion books and
workbooks are taken home, and special
holy cards and religious stickers are
sometimes distributed. In this way we
are assured that Catholic literature is
making its way into the homes of our
school families. The seeds are being
planted.
Our school day contains 6.25 hours of
instruction, with an additional 1/2 hour
for lunch. We follow the state
regulation of 185 calendar days. State
mandated subjects are taught with the
latest textbooks and include a
technology program with an updated
computer room. Many of our computers
have recently been donated and installed
by the Ford Motor Company.
Extra curriculum programs include Title
One remedial reading and math for
those children who need the extra help;
a full Library/Resource Room; CYO sports programs; a federally funded
breakfast and hot lunch program.
All this is with the guidance and
approval of the
Archdiocese of Detroit - Department of
Education.
We are currently in the process of
becoming accredited under the Michigan
Association of Non-Public Schools.
Students pay tuition and the budget is
supplemented by the Archdiocesan School
Outreach Funds along with very
successful school
fundraisers. The
children support the Madonna Guild
boutiques and we are grateful for the
ongoing financial support by these
dedicated ladies.
Transfiguration Academy is a
Catholic
School you can be proud of!
