THE FIRST CHURCH
Our first Church was a tiny wooden structure
built on a plot of farm land.
On October 25, 1925, the Church of the
Transfiguration was blessed
by Msgr. John J. Doily. Until this first small
Church was constructed, Fr. Kilar said Mass
weekly in the basement of the Nelson home on
Buffalo Street.
On July 25, 1926, the cornerstone of the new
brick building -
designed to serve
as a Church, School and Convent -
was consecrated by
his Excellency Bishop Michael Gallagher.
This structure,
however, could not meet the needs of an
ever-expanding Parish.
In 1950, the "new
Church" was completed. It has a Romanesque
design filled with with beautiful, hand-laid
tiles and mosaic murals, Italian marble
throughout, amazing stained glass windows, and a
serene beauty which allows one to worship in an
environment conducive to quiet contemplation and
meditation.
Below are some
artistic renderings of the construction of the
"new Church". If you have any actual photos
taken during the construction and would like to
share them, please contact us. We'd love to see
them and share them with the entire Parish
family!
